久患糖尿病 大腦認知功能會衰退
【台灣醒報記者李明倫綜合報導】記憶力衰退？可能糖尿病作祟。美國最新的研究發現，糖尿病對患者認知功能和日常活動能力有負面影響。波士頓哈佛醫學院擔任研究作者的薇拉·諾瓦克醫師表示，正常血流的調節對大腦在執行日常活動時活化不同腦區是重要的，但第二型糖尿病患者的血液調節能力較差，在他們兩年來的研究中觀察到，患病者的認知能力與記憶力變差。
參與這項研究的40位受試人員的平均年齡為66歲，其中19位有第二型糖尿病，另21位沒有。患有第二型糖尿病患者已有13年的醫療史，受試者在研究初期接受檢測，並在兩年後再度進行檢測。檢測包含認知和記憶測試，利用磁振造影（MRI）量測大腦體積以及血流狀況，並檢驗血液中血糖值和發炎狀況。
兩年後，那些有糖尿病的受試者，他們調節大腦中血液流動狀況下降，認知和記憶測試分數較低。兩年前初受試時調節血流能力較差者，在兩年後日常活動能力，如洗澡、煮飯能力更是大幅下降。諾瓦克醫師說，即便患者試圖好好控制其血糖和血壓，但在血液中檢測到的發炎反應提高與調節血液能力下降仍有高度相關。
在學習和記憶測試中，糖尿病人的得分下降了12%（從46分到41分）而那些沒有糖尿病的分數保持不變（55分）。糖尿病的受試者大腦血流調節能力降低了65%。諾瓦克醫師說，早期檢測和監測血流量調節，可能是認知和決策能力加速變化的一個重要指標，但目前需要更多受試者和更長時間的觀察，才能了解血流調節和改變大腦認知和記憶功能的關係。
近幾年來，有些研究報告建議，年長者若要改善大腦執行功能，最好多參與刺激認知功能活動、規律運動，以強化大腦自我控制功能，如有氧運動、學習新事物，都能幫助大腦保持靈活。
此研究已於7月8日發表在國際學術期刊《美國神經病學》。
